Phang Nga –
A leatherback sea turtle laid eggs on a beach in the Takua Pa district.
The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) was notified from the Koh Kor Khao village head man Mr. Sanae Churat that yesterday (January 31st) local residents found traces of a sea turtle mother on the Sunset Beach.
DMCR officials and staff arrived on the beach to find the sea turtle nest and discovered that they were leatherback sea turtle eggs. The nest was full of eggs and the area was not affected by seawater or poor weather.
Therefore, the eggs were not removed from their nests. However, the nest is being fenced for the egg’s protection.
Locals on Koh Kor Khao are very happy as this is the first nest found of leather back sea turtles in two years in Koh Kor Khao village. The last time leatherback sea turtle eggs were found at the village was in 2021. Additionally, all the eggs last time were not fertile eggs.
Local residents are eagerly waiting to see the baby sea turtles.
